First Aid for Kittens

Kitty Emergency

A kitten emergency is not something you should take lightly, especially if it’s your first time to own a cat. Knowing the 3 things below might just make the difference between life and death for your Ragdoll kitten.

1. What To Check

There are times when your kitten exhibits odd behavior and you should not ignore this because it could already be a symptom of something that’s bothering your new pet. You should try to be observant as to how your Ragdoll kitten behaves. You can try to recall its eating, sleeping and playing habits to differentiate what’s normal behavior from abnormal behavior. Take note when the changes happen or how frequent it occurs because this can help you assess the situation and how grave it could be.

2. What To Give

Once you have determined that there’s something wrong with your Ragdoll kitten, try to approach it slowly. Do this so that your kitten won’t feel threatened since when animals are not feeling well, they get more wary of everything. If there’s an open wound, bleeding cuts or bruised, put bandage on it carefully. To keep your kitty calm and safe, try to show your affections more by giving it his or her favorite cat toy, some comfort cat food or petting it more often.

3. What To Do

For more complicated emergencies like a broken bone that requires splints or high fever, you should call your vet for consultation and assistance. You can also bring your Ragdoll kitten to a clinic but be sure to consult with your vet if it’s okay for you to carry or touch your kitty first. Some emergencies may require you not to move them at all.

Finally, to ensure that you can handle future emergencies, you should also check if your local vet or clinic has a course on Pet First Aid and sign up for it. You should also always keep a first aid kit in your home for your Ragdoll kitten with emergency numbers taped on it for easy reference.
